The rhythm of the tires as I drove from Albuquerque to Savannah soothed me.
I had plenty of time to think about Harmony and whether I had conjured her up in my imagination.
As I recalled, I had told her every single one of my stories that I had made up while driving.
Once the well of ideas had run dry, she had disappeared.
Maybe I can find Harmony again once I build up a new trove of stories?
I knew then that it was time to forget the way we had matched and start anew on a fresh batch of stories.
The challenge? Write a story in 6 sentences, no more & no less, and if you’d like, share your creation or just visit and comment on others’ ideas, with GirlieOnTheEdge, Denise. The prompt is “Rhythm”, and here’s where you join the party: Six Sentence Stories
Note: I had more fun than I thought I would by continuing this story each week. But as the truck driver needs to think of new stories, so do I. Alas, that means saying goodbye to my driver and Harmony.
All parts of the Harmony story is now linked on the Storylines page if you wish to read them all.
I like the role that stories play in this episode.

I like how he told Harmony all the stories he had made up.

I do too. In a way, this series is a metaphor for my life. For a long time I made up stories that no one ever saw. Finally I started telling them to the readers of this blog. I’m also fearful that once the well of ideas dry up, then you all will no longer come by. To overcome that, I need to keep on telling new stories and telling myself that I can do it.

Wait, is that metaphor or allegory? I can never remember.

They will live on in memory, probably he making up stories and she waiting to hear them.

Harmony kept him company for as long as he had new stories to tell. Good chance they’ll meet up again once he refills that (story) coffer 🙂

You never know. Great set of prompts lead naturally to the series.

This isn’t necessarily goodbye for these two characters. You’ll be surprised how a prompt may bring them back. It doesn’t have to be consecutive weeks.

That’s true, who knows?

Loved this Six.
(Since arriving in this place* I’ve been constantly amazed by how, in contrast with the ‘real’ world, stories become the currency of social interaction. Specifically, the role of story-telling. Not merely deliberate fiction for diversion and to amuse each other, like in this bloghop. Rather the substance of ourselves we offer and share as we meet and interact and develop friendships.
After all, this is a world without geography, no one is likely to take a drive and see if your house is as large as you might have once described, or check out where you work or, even, (and especially), look at ‘you’ and say, “No way. You’re not like that.”)
My vote (in the Reader Reaction Poll of your installment this week): Keep driving, the stories will come.

Thanks, I’m amazed also at this community.
Wait? There is a Reader Reaction Poll? Where?

May your well never run dry, Matt. I sure you’ll replenish it aplenty soon!

I hope so too. Everytime I think it is dry, a new story pops up.

Stories will come, Matt, if you don’t go looking for them.
Life is full of them, I find.

I know, I just have an innate fear of running dry of ideas.
